I. JESUS, CREATOR OF ALL THINGS (15-17) 1. Who is Jesus in relation to God? (15a) How did Paul describe God? (1 Ti 1:17: Jn 4;24) What does it mean that Jesus is the “image” of God? (Heb 1:3a; Jn 1:18; 14:9b)? 2. What does the phrase “the firstborn over all creation” teach us about Jesus? (15b; Jn 1:1,2) [Here, the term “firstborn” does not mean chronologically, but in existence.] 3. What are the means and scope and purpose of all creation? (16; Jn 1:3) Why does the author emphasize “all things”? How is Jesus continually involved in his creation? (17; Heb 1:3b) In light of verses 15-17, how does Jesus challenge your world view? II. JESUS, THE HEAD OF CHURCH 4. How is Jesus related to the church? What does it mean that Jesus is the head of the church (Eph 1:22,23)? How did he become the head? (18b; 1 Co 15:20-22; Ro 6:9) 5. Based on verses 15-18, in what respects does Jesus have the have the supremacy? Why is Jesus alone sufficient? (19) Why is it so important to know the supremacy of Christ? III. JESUS, OUR RECONCILER (20-23) 5. What did God do through Jesus? (20a) Why do all things need reconciliation? (Ro 5:9,10; 8:20,21) How did God reconcile all things to himself? (Eph 2:14-16) 6. What were their spiritual states before reconciliation? (21) How were they changed and for what purpose? (22) What do they need to continue in? (23) Why? What does the reconciliation mean to you?
